Description

This simulation is used to visualize a magnetic field used in plasma confinement.

Purpose

Magnetic fields used for plasma confinement are being investigated in the hopes that nuclear fusion may some day be possible. Hypercosm allows the visualization of scalar field data through a 3 dimensional space. In this simulation, different colors are used to depict isosurfaces denoting varying magnetic field strengths.

Features

  • Volumetric Field Visualization
Volumetric 3D fields may be rendered using Hypercosm's isosurface generation algorithms. These fields may be specified analytically or may be specified by arrays of discrete values such as fields of data that are obtained experimentally.

  • Transparency
Transparency is used in this visualization to allow the user to look through a 3 dimensional space and to get an intuitive sense of the field strength at any given point in the space by interpolating between the transparent isosurfaces. A spectrum of colors is used to denote changes in field strength.
